^23 (A)Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the ^[a]leaders of Shechem; and the ^[b]leaders of Shechem ^(B)dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

^14 (A)Now the Spirit of the Lord left Saul, and ^(B)an evil spirit from the Lord terrified him.

Saul Turns against David

¹⁰ Now it came about on the next day that ^(A)an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and ^(B)he raved in the midst of the house while David was playing the harp with his hand, ^[a](C)as usual; and ^[b](D)a spear was in Saul’s hand.

⁹ Now there was ^(A)an evil spirit from the Lord on Saul as he was sitting in his house ^(B)with his spear in his hand, ^(C)and David was playing the harp with his hand.

⁹ “But if the prophet is persuaded so that he speaks a word, it is I, the Lord, who have persuaded that prophet; and I will stretch out My hand against him and ^(A)eliminate him from among My people Israel.

¹¹ For this reason ^(A)God ^[a]will send upon them ^[b]a ^(B)deluding influence so that they will believe ^[c]what is false,
