^23 (A)Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem ^(B)dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

¹⁵ Saul’s servants then said to him, “Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrorizing you. ¹⁶ Let our lord now command your servants who are before you. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that ^(A)he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well.”

Saul Turns against David

¹⁰ Now it came about on the next day that ^(A)an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and ^(B)he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, ^[a](C)as usual; and ^[b](D)a spear was in Saul’s hand.

⁹ Now there was ^(A)an evil spirit from the Lord on Saul as he was sitting in his house ^(B)with his spear in his hand, ^(C)and David was playing the harp with his hand.

^19 [a]Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. ^(A)I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and ^(B)all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. ²⁰ The Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said this while another said that. ²¹ Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’ ²² The Lord said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and ^(C)be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and also prevail. Go and do so.’
