²¹ The angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. ^(A)Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. ²² And Manoah said to his wife, ^(B)“We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”

³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

²⁰ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for ^(A)man shall not see me and live.”
