Judges 2:14-16 English Standard Version (ESV)

¹⁴ So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. ¹⁵ Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress.

The Lord Raises Up Judges

¹⁶ Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

⁹ But they forgot the Lord their God. And he sold them into the hand of Sisera, commander of the army of Hazor,^[a] and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab. And they fought against them. ¹⁰ And they cried out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. But now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve you.’ ¹¹ And the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Barak^[b] and Jephthah and Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.
