⁹He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone; he has made my paths crooked.

¹⁰He was unto me as a bear lying in wait and as a lion in secret places.

¹¹He has made my ways crooked and pulled me in pieces; he has made me desolate.

⁹He has barred^(A) my way with blocks of stone;
he has made my paths crooked.^(B)

¹⁰Like a bear lying in wait,
like a lion^(C) in hiding,^(D)
¹¹he dragged me from the path and mangled^(E) me
and left me without help.
