For the [a]wrongdoing of the daughter of my people
Is greater than the [b](A)sin of Sodom,
Which was (B)overthrown as in a moment,
[c]And no hands were turned toward her.
Her [d]consecrated ones were (C)purer than snow,
They shined more than milk;
They were more ruddy in [e]body than pearls of coral,
Their form was like [f](D)lapis lazuli.
Their appearance is (E)darker than soot,
They are not recognized in the streets;
Their (F)skin is shriveled on their bones,
It is dry, it has become like wood.

The punishment of my people
    is greater than that of Sodom,(A)
which was overthrown in a moment
    without a hand turned to help her.

Their princes were brighter than snow
    and whiter than milk,
their bodies more ruddy than rubies,
    their appearance like lapis lazuli.

But now they are blacker(B) than soot;
    they are not recognized in the streets.
Their skin has shriveled on their bones;(C)
    it has become as dry as a stick.
