14 “If his gift to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds,(A) he is to present his offering from the turtledoves(B) or young pigeons.[a](C) 15 Then the priest must bring it to the altar, and must twist off its head and burn it on the altar; its blood should be drained at the side of the altar. 16 He will remove its digestive tract,[b] cutting off the tail feathers, and throw it on the east side of the altar at the place for ashes.(D) 17 He will tear it open by its wings without dividing the bird.(E) Then the priest is to burn it on the altar on top of the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

“But if he cannot afford an animal from the flock, then he may bring to the Lord two turtledoves or two young pigeons(A) as restitution for his sin—one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. He is to bring them to the priest, who will first present the one for the sin offering. He must twist its head at the back of the neck without severing it.(B) Then he will sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar;(C) it is a sin offering. 10 He must prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the regulation.(D) In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.
