³ Lift up Your feet to the perpetual desolations.
The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.
^4 (A)Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place;
^(B)They set up their banners for signs.
⁵ They seem like men who lift up
Axes among the thick trees.
⁶ And now they break down its carved work, all at once,
With axes and hammers.
⁷ They have set fire to Your sanctuary;
They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.
^8 (C)They said in their hearts,
“Let us ^[a]destroy them altogether.”
They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.

79 O God, the ^[a]nations have come into ^(A)Your inheritance;
Your holy temple they have defiled;
^(B)They have laid Jerusalem ^[b]in heaps.
^2 (C)The dead bodies of Your servants
They have given as food for the birds of the heavens,
The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.
³ Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem,
And there was no one to bury them.
⁴ We have become a reproach to our ^(D)neighbors,
A scorn and derision to those who are around us.
