²⁷ ‘Now if ^[a]anyone of the ^[b]common people sins ^(A)unintentionally by doing any of the ^[c]things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and becomes guilty, ^28 [d](B)if his sin which he has ^[e]committed is made known to him, then he shall bring as his offering a ^[f](C)goat, a ^(D)female without defect, for his sin which he has ^[g]committed. ²⁹ And ^(E)he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and ^(F)slaughter the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering. ³⁰ The priest shall then take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of ^(G)the altar of burnt offering; and ^(H)all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. ^31 (I)Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar as ^(J)a soothing aroma to the Lord. So the priest shall make atonement for him, ^[h]and he will be forgiven.

⁴⁸ but the one who did not ^(A)know it, and committed acts deserving of ^[a]a beating, will receive only a few blows. ^(B)From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
