¹⁷ “Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area?^(A) For it is especially holy, and he has assigned it to you to take away the guilt^(B) of the community^(C) and make atonement for them before the Lord.

¹⁶ by letting the people eat their holy offerings and having them bear the penalty of restitution.^(A) For I am the Lord who sets them apart.”

Provision for the Priesthood

18 The Lord said to Aaron, “You, your sons, and your ancestral family^[a](A) will be responsible for iniquity against the sanctuary. You and your sons will be responsible for iniquity involving your priesthood.

⁴ “Then lie down on your left side and place the iniquity^[a] of the house of Israel on it. You will bear their iniquity for the number of days you lie on your side. ⁵ For I have assigned you the years of their iniquity according to the number of days you lie down, 390 days; so you will bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.^{(A) 6} When you have completed these days, lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have assigned you forty days, a day for each year.

The Lamb of God

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God,^(A) who takes away the sin^(B) of the world!

²⁸ so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many,^(A) will appear a second time,^(B) not to bear sin, but^[a] to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.^(C)

²⁴ He himself bore our sins^(A) in his body^(B) on the tree;^(C) so that, having died to sins,^(D) we might live for righteousness.^(E) By his wounds^[a](F) you have been healed.
