⁴⁰ Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the ^[a]foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and branches of trees with thick branches and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.

¹² And you shall ^(A)rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, and the ^(B)Levite who is within your gates, since ^(C)he has no portion or inheritance with you.

¹⁸ But ^(A)you shall eat them before the Lord your God in ^(B)the place which the Lord your God will choose, you and your son and daughter, and your male and female slaves, and the ^(C)Levite who is within your gates; and you shall ^(D)rejoice before the Lord your God in all ^[a]your undertakings.

²⁶ And you may spend the money on whatever your ^[a]heart desires: on oxen, sheep, wine, other strong drink, or whatever your ^[b]heart ^[c]desires; and ^(A)there you shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household.

⁴⁷ “^(A)Since you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a cheerful heart, in gratitude for the abundance of all things,

¹² I know that there is ^(A)nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime; ¹³ moreover, that every person who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—this is the ^(B)gift of God.

¹⁸ Here is what I have seen to be ^(A)good and ^[a]fitting: to eat, to drink, and ^[b]enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he labors under the sun during the few ^[c]years of his life which God has given him; for this is his ^[d](B)reward. ¹⁹ Furthermore, as for every person to whom ^(C)God has given riches and wealth, He has also ^(D)given him the opportunity to ^[e]enjoy them and to receive his ^[f]reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the ^(E)gift of God. ²⁰ For he will not often call to mind the ^[g]years of his life, because ^(F)God keeps ^[h]him busy with the joy of his heart.
