¹⁶ Whoever blasphemes the name of Yahweh is to be put to death;^(A) the whole community must stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the foreign resident or the native.

³ At this, some of the scribes said among themselves, “He’s blaspheming!”^(A)

⁶² The high priest then stood up and said to Him, “Don’t You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You?” ⁶³ But^(A) Jesus kept silent.^(B) Then the high priest said to Him, “By the living God I place You under oath:^(C) tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!”^(D)

⁶⁴ “You have said it,”^[a] Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future^[b] you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”^(E)[c]

⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed!^(F) Why do we still need witnesses? Look, now you’ve heard the blasphemy!^{(G) 66} What is your decision?”^[d]

They answered, “He deserves death!”^(H)

¹⁸ This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill Him:^(A) Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

⁵⁹ At that, they picked up stones^(A) to throw at Him.^(B) But Jesus was hidden^[a](C) and went out of the temple complex.^[b](D)
