³⁹ Those^[a] who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away because of their sin; they will also waste away because of their fathers’ sins along with theirs.

¹⁷ So they will lack bread and water; everyone will be devastated and waste away because of their iniquity.^(A)

²³ Your turbans will remain on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not lament or weep^(A) but will waste away^(B) because of your sins and will groan to one another.
