Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

14 (A)When the hour had come, He sat down, and the [a]twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it (B)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for (C)I say to you, [b]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 (D)And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My (E)body which is given for you; (F)do this in remembrance of Me.”

20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, (G)“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

The Lord’s Supper

14 (A)When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and (B)the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it (C)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 (D)And when He had taken a cup and (E)given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for (F)I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and (G)given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is (H)poured out for you is the (I)new covenant in My blood.

22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise (A)the church of God and (B)shame [a]those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper(C)

23 For (D)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: (E)that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, [b]“Take, eat; this is My body which is [c]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death (F)till He comes.

Examine Yourself

27 Therefore whoever eats (G)this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and [d]blood of the Lord. 28 But (H)let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks [e]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the [f]Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many [g]sleep. 31 For (I)if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, (J)we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

33 Therefore, my brethren, when you (K)come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will set in order when I come.

22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. 34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the (A)church of God and (B)shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall (C)I praise you? In this I will not praise you.

The Lord’s Supper

23 For (D)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that (E)the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He took (F)the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the (G)new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death (H)until He comes.

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be (I)guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must (J)examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number [a](K)sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are (L)disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with (M)the world.

33 So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 If anyone is (N)hungry, let him eat (O)at home, so that you will not come together for judgment. The remaining matters I will (P)arrange (Q)when I come.
