²⁷A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed^(A) for him.

¹¹After saying this, he told them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him.”

¹¹After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend^(A) Lazarus has fallen asleep;^(B) but I am going there to wake him up.”

¹³Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was referring merely to sleep.

¹³Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.^(A)
