⁸ Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. And don’t start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’^(A) for I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

³⁰ “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said. ‘But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

⁹ “Today salvation^(A) has come to this house,” Jesus told him, “because he too is a son of Abraham.^(B)

³³ “We are descendants^[a] of Abraham,”^(A) they answered Him, “and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will become free’?”

³⁹ “Our father is Abraham!” they replied.

“If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them, “you would do what Abraham did.^(A)

⁵³ Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? Even the prophets died. Who do You pretend to be?”^[a]
