³⁶ All the people were amazed^(A) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority^(B) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”

⁶³ The Spirit gives life;^(A) the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit^[a] and life.

⁴⁶ “No one ever spoke the way this man does,”^(A) the guards replied.

²⁶ “I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy,^(A) and what I have heard from him I tell the world.”^(B)

²⁸ So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up^[a] the Son of Man,^(A) then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.^(B)

³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence,^(A) and you are doing what you have heard from your father.^[a]”^(B)

⁴⁷ Whoever belongs to God hears what God says.^(A) The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

⁴⁹ For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me^(A) to say all that I have spoken.

⁵⁰ I know that his command leads to eternal life.^(A) So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”^(B)
