Luke 9:18-20

¹⁸One day as he was alone, praying, with his disciples nearby, he came over and asked them, “Who are the people saying I am?”

¹⁹“John the Baptist,” they told him, “or perhaps Elijah or one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead.”

²⁰Then he asked them, “Who do you think I am?”

Peter replied, “The Messiah—the Christ of God!”

¹⁸Once when Jesus was praying^(C) in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”

¹⁹They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;^(D) others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”^(E)

²⁰“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”^(F)
