⁸ others that Elijah had appeared,^(A) and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.^(B)

¹⁵ Others said, “He is Elijah.”^(A)

And still others claimed, “He is a prophet,^(B) like one of the prophets of long ago.”^(C)

¹⁰ The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

¹¹ And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

²¹ They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”^(A)

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you the Prophet?”^(B)

He answered, “No.”
