¹⁹ because ^(A)what may be known of God is ^[a]manifest ^[b]in them, for ^(B)God has shown it to them. ²⁰ For since the creation of the world ^(C)His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and ^[c]Godhead, so that they are without excuse, ²¹ because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but ^(D)became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. ^22 (E)Professing to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and changed the glory of the ^(F)incorruptible ^(G)God into an image made like ^[d]corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

^24 (H)Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, ^(I)to dishonor their bodies ^(J)among themselves, ²⁵ who exchanged ^(K)the truth of God ^(L)for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

²⁶ For this reason God gave them up to ^(M)vile passions. For even their ^[e]women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. ²⁷ Likewise also the ^[f]men, leaving the natural use of the ^[g]woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things ^(N)which are not fitting; ²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, ^[h]sexual immorality, wickedness, ^[i]covetousness, ^[j]maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, ³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ^31 [k]undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, ^[l]unforgiving, unmerciful; ³² who, ^(O)knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things ^(P)are deserving of death, not only do the same but also ^(Q)approve of those who practice them.

¹⁰ As it is written:

²³ for ^(A)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

¹² Therefore, just as ^(B)through one man sin entered the world, and ^(C)death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by ^(A)one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

⁶ knowing this, that ^(A)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(B)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, ^(A)sold under sin. ¹⁵ For what I am doing, I do not understand. ^(B)For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. ¹⁶ If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. ¹⁷ But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. ¹⁸ For I know that ^(C)in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. ¹⁹ For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. ²⁰ Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

²¹ I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. ²² For I ^(D)delight in the law of God according to ^(E)the inward man. ²³ But ^(F)I see another law in ^(G)my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ²⁴ O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me ^(H)from this body of death? ^25 (I)I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

¹⁴ For ^(A)as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. ¹⁵ For ^(B)you did not receive the spirit of bondage again ^(C)to fear, but you received the ^(D)Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ^(E)“Abba,^[a] Father.” ^16 (F)The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, then ^(G)heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, ^(H)if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

From Suffering to Glory

¹⁸ For I consider that ^(I)the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
