Whose Son Is the Messiah?^(A)(B)

³⁵ While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts,^(C) he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?^(D)

⁴⁹ Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,^(A) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”^(B)

²⁰ Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.^(A) The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.

⁴⁷ Every day he was teaching at the temple.^(A) But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.^(B)

The Authority of Jesus Questioned^(A)

20 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts^(B) and proclaiming the good news,^(C) the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him.

³⁷ Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple,^(A) and each evening he went out^(B) to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,^(C)

Jesus Teaches at the Festival

¹⁴ Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.^(A)

²⁸ Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,^(A) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.^(B) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.^(C) You do not know him,

² At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.^(A)

²⁰ He spoke these words while teaching^(A) in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put.^(B) Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.^(C)
