Persecutions Predicted

⁹ “But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to sanhedrins,^[a](A) and you will be flogged^(B) in the synagogues.^(C) You will stand before governors and kings^(D) because of Me,^(E) as a witness^(F) to them.^(G)

¹¹ So when they arrest you and hand you over, don’t worry beforehand what you will say. On the contrary, whatever is given to you in that hour—say it. For it isn’t you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ Whenever^(A) they bring you before synagogues and rulers and authorities,^(B) don’t worry^(C) about how you should defend^(D) yourselves or what you should say. ¹² For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what must be said.”^(E)

⁴⁰ After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.^(A)

¹¹ In all the synagogues I often tried to make them blaspheme by punishing them.^(A) I even pursued them to foreign cities since I was greatly enraged at them.
