Mark 15:34-36

34 Then Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?”[a] (“My God, my God, why have you deserted me?”)
35 Some of the people standing there thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah. 36 So one man ran and got a sponge and filled it with sour wine and held it up to him on a stick.
“Let’s see if Elijah will come and take him down!” he said.

- Mark 15:34 Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani. He spoke here in Aramaic. The onlookers, who spoke Greek and Latin, misunderstood his first two words (“Eli, Eli”) and thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah.

New International Version
34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[a](A)
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(B) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
