^38 (A)And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. ^39 (B)When the centurion, who was standing ^[a]right in front of Him, saw ^[b]the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was ^[c]the Son of God!”

^40 (C)There were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of ^[d]James ^(D)the ^[e]Less and Joses, and ^(E)Salome. ⁴¹ When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and ^[f](F)minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

^47 (A)Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began ^(B)praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was ^[a]innocent.” ⁴⁸ And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, ^[b](C)beating their breasts. ^49 (D)And all His acquaintances and ^(E)the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things.
