11 (A)The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, (B)seeking from Him a [a]sign from heaven, [b]to test Him. 12 (C)Sighing deeply [c]in His spirit, He *said, “Why does this generation seek for a [d]sign? Truly I say to you, [e](D)no [f]sign will be given to this generation.” 13 Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.

14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. 15 And He was giving orders to them, saying, (E)Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of (F)Herod.” 16 They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, *said to them, “Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? (G)Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a [g]hardened heart? 18 (H)Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember, 19 when I broke (I)the five loaves for the five thousand, how many (J)baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They *said to Him, “Twelve.” 20 “When I broke (K)the seven for the four thousand, how many large (L)baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they *said to Him, “Seven.” 21 And He was saying to them, (M)Do you not yet understand?”

22 And they *came to (N)Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to (O)touch him. 23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He (P)brought him out of the village; and after (Q)spitting on his eyes and (R)laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he [h]looked up and said, “I see men, for [i]I see them like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter (S)the village.”

11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(A) 12 He sighed deeply(B) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.

The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod

14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(C) of the Pharisees(D) and that of Herod.”(E)

16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”

17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(F) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”

“Twelve,”(G) they replied.

20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”

They answered, “Seven.”(H)

21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(I)

Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida

22 They came to Bethsaida,(J) and some people brought a blind man(K) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(L) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(M) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”

24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”

25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”

  1. Mark 8:26 Some manuscripts go and tell anyone in

11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
