34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him (A)deny himself and (B)take up his cross and follow me. 35 For (C)whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake (D)and the gospel's will save it. 36 (E)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(A) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(B) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
