Jesus Is Arrested(A)

43 Just then, while Yeshua was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles, arrived. A crowd carrying swords and clubs was with him. They were from the chief priests, the experts in Moses’ Teachings, and the leaders of the people. 44 Now, the traitor had given them a signal. He said, “The one I kiss is the man you want. Arrest him, and guard him closely as you take him away.”

45 Then Judas quickly stepped up to Yeshua and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.

46 Some men took hold of Yeshua and arrested him. 47 One of those standing there pulled out his sword and cut off the ear of the chief priest’s servant.

48 Yeshua asked them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I were a criminal? 49 I used to teach in the temple courtyard every day. But you didn’t arrest me then. But what the Scriptures say must come true.”

50 Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.

51 A certain young man was following Yeshua. He had nothing on but a linen sheet. They tried to arrest him, 52 but he left the linen sheet behind and ran away naked.

Jesus Is Arrested(A)

47 While he was still speaking to the disciples, a crowd arrived. The man called Judas, one of the twelve apostles, was leading them. He came close to Yeshua to kiss him.

48 Yeshua said to him, “Judas, do you intend to betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49 The men who were with Yeshua saw what was going to happen. So they asked him, “Lord, should we use our swords to fight?” 50 One of the disciples cut off the right ear of the chief priest’s servant.

51 But Yeshua said, “Stop! That’s enough of this.” Then he touched the servant’s ear and healed him.

52 Then Yeshua said to the chief priests, temple guards, and leaders who had come for him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a criminal? 53 I was with you in the temple courtyard every day and you didn’t try to arrest me. But this is your time, when darkness rules.”

54 So they arrested Yeshua and led him away to the chief priest’s house.

Jesus Is Arrested(A)

18 After Yeshua finished his prayer, he went with his disciples to the other side of the Kidron Valley. They entered the garden that was there.

Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place because Yeshua and his disciples often gathered there. So Judas took a troop of soldiers and the guards from the chief priests and Pharisees and went to the garden. They were carrying lanterns, torches, and weapons.

Yeshua knew everything that was going to happen to him. So he went to meet them and asked, “Who are you looking for?”

They answered him, “Yeshua from Nazareth.”

Yeshua told them, “I am he.”

Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with the crowd. When Yeshua told them, “I am he,” the crowd backed away and fell to the ground.

Yeshua asked them again, “Who are you looking for?”

They said, “Yeshua from Nazareth.”

Yeshua replied, “I told you that I am he. So if you are looking for me, let these other men go.” In this way what Yeshua had said came true: “I lost none of those you gave me.”

10 Simon Peter had a sword. He drew it, attacked the chief priest’s servant, and cut off the servant’s right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)

11 Yeshua told Peter, “Put your sword away. Shouldn’t I drink the cup of suffering that my Father has given me?”

12 Then the army officer and the Jewish guards arrested Yeshua. They tied Yeshua up 13 and took him first to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas. Caiaphas, the chief priest that year, 14 was the person who had advised the Jews that it was better to have one man die for the people.
