¹¹The^(A) Pharisees^(B) came out and began to argue with Him, demanding of Him a sign^(C) from heaven^(D) to test^(E) Him. ¹²But sighing deeply in His spirit,^(F) He said, “Why does this generation^(G) demand a sign? I assure you:^(H) No sign will be given to this generation!”

The Sign of Jonah

²⁹As the crowds were increasing, He began saying: “This generation^(A) is an evil generation.^(B) It demands a sign,^(C) but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.^[a]^(D) ³⁰For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also the Son of Man^(E) will be to this generation. ³¹The queen of the south^(F) will rise up at the judgment^(G) with the men of this generation and condemn^(H) them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon,^(I) and look—something greater than Solomon is here! ³²The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah’s proclamation, and look—something greater than Jonah is here!
