22 Pilate *said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus (A)who is called Christ?” They all *said, “[a]Crucify Him!” 23 But he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, “[b]Crucify Him!”
24 Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that (B)a riot was starting, he took water and (C)washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of (D)this Man’s blood; (E)you yourselves shall see.” 25 And all the people replied, “(F)His blood shall be on us and on our children!”

24 So when Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but rather that a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands [to ceremonially cleanse himself of guilt] in the presence of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this [righteous] Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.”(B) 25 And all the people answered, “Let [the responsibility for] His blood be on us and on our children!”(C)

They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar(B) was starting, he took water and washed his hands(C) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”(D) he said. “It is your responsibility!”(E)
25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”(F)
