³⁶ But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(A) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(B) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(C) The dead were judged^(D) according to what they had done^(E) as recorded in the books.

¹⁴ Enoch,^(A) the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming^(B) with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones^{(C) 15} to judge^(D) everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”^[a](E)

¹⁶ This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets^(A) through Jesus Christ,^(B) as my gospel^(C) declares.

⁴ Fathers,^[a] do not exasperate your children;^(A) instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.^(B)

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect^(C) and fear, and with sincerity of heart,^(D) just as you would obey Christ.^{(E) 6} Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ,^(F) doing the will of God from your heart.
