³⁸ And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ³⁹ Anyone who finds his life will lose it,^(A) and anyone who loses his life because of me will find it.^(B)

²⁷ Whoever does not bear his own cross^(A) and come after me cannot be my disciple.

³¹ I face death every day,^(A) as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord.
