⁷ As John’s^(A) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness^(B) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? ⁸ If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.

⁸ They replied, “He had a garment of hair^[a](A) and had a leather belt around his waist.”

The king said, “That was Elijah the Tishbite.”

⁴ “On that day every prophet will be ashamed^(A) of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophet’s garment^(B) of hair^(C) in order to deceive.^(D)
