²⁶The disciples saw him walking on the sea and panicked. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and they screamed in terror. ²⁷But Jesus at once spoke to them.

“Cheer up,” he said, “it’s me! Don’t be frightened!”

²⁸“If it’s really you, Master,” said Peter in reply, “give me the word to come to you on the water.”

²⁶When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”^(A) they said, and cried out in fear.

²⁷But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage!^(B) It is I. Don’t be afraid.”^(C)

²⁸“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
