His Death and Resurrection Predicted

21 From(A) then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.(B) 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, “Oh no,[a] Lord! This will never happen to You!”

23 But He turned and told Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns,[b] but man’s.”(C)

Take Up Your Cross

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.(D) 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.(E) 26 What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?(F) 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father,(G) and then He will reward each according to what he has done. 28 I assure you: There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”(H)

21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem(B) and suffer many things(C) at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(D) and that he must be killed(E) and on the third day(F) be raised to life.(G)

22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!(H) You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(I) 25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.(J) 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man(K) is going to come(L) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.(M)

28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Take Up Your Cross

34 Summoning the crowd along with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself,(I) take up his cross,(J) and follow Me.(K) 35 For whoever wants to save(L) his life will lose it,(M) but whoever loses(N) his life(O) because of Me(P) and the gospel(Q) will save it.(R) 36 For what does it benefit(S) a man to gain(T) the whole world(U) yet lose(V) his life?(W) 37 What can a man give in exchange for his life?(X) 38 For whoever is ashamed(Y) of Me and of My words(Z) in this adulterous and sinful(AA) generation,(AB) the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory(AC) of His Father(AD) with the holy(AE) angels.”(AF)

Then He said to them, “I assure you:(AG) There are some standing here who will not taste death(AH) until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”(AI)
