The Sign of Jonah

^29 (A)When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, ^(B)“This generation is an evil generation. ^(C)It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. ³⁰ For as ^(D)Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. ^31 (E)The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and ^(F)condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, ^(G)something greater than Solomon is here. ^32 (H)The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and ^(I)condemn it, for ^(J)they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, ^(K)something greater than Jonah is here.

The Pharisees Demand a Sign

^11 (A)The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, ^(B)seeking from him ^(C)a sign from heaven ^(D)to test him. ¹² And ^(E)he sighed deeply ^(F)in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
