24 Now when they came to Capernaum, those who collected (B)the [a]two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay (C)the [b]two-drachma tax?” 25 He *said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect (D)tolls or (E)taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”

New International Version
23 They will kill him,(A) and on the third day(B) he will be raised to life.”(C) And the disciples were filled with grief.
The Temple Tax
24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax(D) came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes(E)—from their own children or from others?”
