15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my business?[a] Are you jealous[b] because I’m generous?’[c](A)

16 “So the last will be first, and the first last.”[d](B)

The Third Prediction of His Death

17 While going up to Jerusalem,(C) Jesus took the 12 disciples aside privately and said to them on the way: 18 “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death.(D) 19 Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles(E) to be mocked, flogged,[e] and crucified, and He will be resurrected[f] on the third day.”

Suffering and Service

20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached Him with her sons.(F) She knelt down to ask Him for something.(G) 21 “What do you want?” He asked her.

Is it lawful to pay taxes(F) to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay, or should we not pay?”

But knowing their hypocrisy,(G) He said to them, “Why are you testing(H) Me? Bring Me a denarius(I) to look at.” 16 So they brought one. “Whose image(J) and inscription(K) is this?” He asked them.

“Caesar’s,” they said.

17 Then Jesus told them, “Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”(L) And they were amazed(M) at Him.
