¹³ “Therefore be alert, because you don’t know either the day or the hour.^[a]

⁴¹ Stay awake and pray, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

³⁴ Then He said to them, “My soul is swallowed up in sorrow^[a] —to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.”^{(A) 35} Then He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour^(B) might pass from Him. ³⁶ And He said, “Abba,^(C) Father!^(D) All things are possible^(E) for You. Take this cup^(F) away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

³⁷ Then He came and found them sleeping. “Simon,^(G) are you sleeping?” He asked Peter.^(H) “Couldn’t you stay awake one hour? ³⁸ Stay awake and pray^(I) so that you won’t enter into temptation.^(J) The spirit^(K) is willing, but the flesh^(L) is weak.”

³⁷ Those slaves the master will find alert^(A) when he comes will be blessed. I assure you: He will get ready,^[a] have them recline at the table, then come and serve them.^(B)

³¹ Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for three years I did not stop warning each one of you with tears.^(A)
