Peter’s Denial Foretold(A)

31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will fall away on account of Me this night, for it is written:

‘I will strike the shepherd,
    and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.’[a]

32 But after I have risen, I will go before you to Galilee.”

33 Peter answered, “Though all men will fall away on account of You, yet I will never fall away.”

34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

35 Peter said to Him, “Though I should die with You, yet I will not deny You.” And all the disciples spoke in this manner.

31 Then the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to have you to sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have repented, strengthen your brothers.”

33 He said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You to prison and to death.”

34 He said, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know Me.”

36 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”

Jesus answered him, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now. But you shall follow Me afterward.”

37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.”

38 Jesus answered Him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Truly, truly I say to you, the rooster shall not crow until you have denied Me three times.”
