Wind and Waves Obey Jesus

23 As he got into the boat,(A) his disciples(B) followed him. 24 Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves—but Jesus kept sleeping. 25 So the disciples came and woke him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to die!”

26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea,(C) and there was a great calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey(D) him!”

Jesus Calms the Storm(A)(B)

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith,(C) why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.(D)

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

36 So they left the crowd and took him along since he was in the boat. And other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm(A) arose, and the waves(B) were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 He was in the stern, sleeping(C) on the cushion. So they woke him up(D) and said to him, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we’re going to die?” (E)

39 He got up, rebuked(F) the wind, and said to the sea, “Silence!(G) Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he said to them, “Why are you afraid?(H) Do you still have no faith?”

41 And they were terrified[a](I) and asked one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey(J) him!” (K)

16 When(A) evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum.(B) Darkness had already set in, but Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 A high wind arose, and the sea began to churn. 19 After they had rowed about three or four miles,[a] they saw Jesus walking on the sea. He was coming near the boat, and they were afraid. 20 But he said to them, “It is I.[b](C) Don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him on board, and at once the boat was at the shore where they were heading.

Jesus Walks on the Water(A)

By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles,[a] they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water;(B) and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.”(C) 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
