Lord of the Sabbath

⁸ For ^(A)the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

^9 (B)Departing from there, He went into their synagogue. ¹⁰ And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned ^[a]Jesus, asking, “^(C)Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse Him. ¹¹ And He said to them, “^(D)What man ^[b]is there among you who ^[c]has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? ^12 (E)How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do ^[d]good on the Sabbath.” ¹³ Then He *said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” ^(F)He stretched it out, and it was restored to ^[e]normal, like the other. ¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out and ^[f](G)conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

⁴ Pilate ^(A)came out again and *said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that ^(B)I find no guilt in Him.” ⁵ Jesus then came out, ^(C)wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate *said to them, “Behold, the Man!” ⁶ So when the chief priests and the ^(D)officers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate *said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for ^(E)I find no guilt in Him.” ⁷ The Jews answered him, “^(F)We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He ^(G)made Himself out to be the Son of God.”

²² “If a man has committed a sin ^(A)worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, ^23 (B)his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for ^(C)he who is hanged is ^[a]accursed of God), so that you ^(D)do not defile your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.

¹³ Christ ^(A)redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “^(B)Cursed is everyone who hangs on ^(C)a ^[a]tree”— ¹⁴ in order that ^(D)in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might ^[b]come to the Gentiles, so that we ^(E)would receive ^(F)the promise of the Spirit through faith.
