⁴⁰ Just as the weeds ^(A)are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at ^(B)the end of the age.

^42 (A)and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place ^(B)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

^8 (A)And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into ^(B)the eternal fire.

^43 (A)And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to ^(B)hell,^[a] to ^(C)the unquenchable fire.^[b]

⁴⁸ ‘where ^(A)their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’

⁷ just as ^(A)Sodom and Gomorrah and ^(B)the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and ^(C)pursued unnatural desire,^[a] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

²⁴ And he called out, ^(A)‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and ^(B)cool my tongue, for ^(C)I am in anguish in this flame.’

^8 (A)in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those ^(B)who do not know God and on those who ^(C)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
