Rejection at Nazareth

⁵⁴ He went to His hometown^(A) and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “How did this wisdom and these miracles come to Him?^(B)

The Sadducees and the Resurrection

²³ The same day some Sadducees,^(A) who say there is no resurrection, came up to Him and questioned Him:^(B)

²² They were astonished^(A) at His teaching^(B) because, unlike the scribes,^(C) He was teaching them as one having authority.

² When the Sabbath^(A) came, He began to teach^(B) in the synagogue,^(C) and many who heard Him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things?” they said. “What is this wisdom^(D) given to Him, and how are these miracles^(E) performed by His hands?

¹⁸ Then the chief priests and the scribes^(A) heard it and started looking for a way to destroy Him. For they were afraid^(B) of Him, because the whole crowd was astonished by His teaching.

³² They were astonished at His teaching because His message had authority.^(A)
