16 ^(A)And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and ^(B)to test him ^(C)they asked him to show them ^(D)a sign from heaven.

The Pharisees Demand a Sign

^11 (A)The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, ^(B)seeking from him ^(C)a sign from heaven ^(D)to test him. ¹² And ^(E)he sighed deeply ^(F)in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

¹⁶ while others, ^(A)to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven.

⁸ When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, ^(A)for he had long desired to see him, ^(B)because he had heard about him, and he was hoping ^(C)to see some sign done by him.

¹⁸ So the Jews said to him, ^(A)“What sign do you show us for doing these things?”

⁴⁸ So Jesus said to him, ^(A)“Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”

³⁰ So they said to him, ^(A)“Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?
