Matthew 17:1-8 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
17 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2 He was transformed[a] in front of them, and His face shone like the sun. Even His clothes became as white as the light. 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
4 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it’s good for us to be here! If You want, I will make[b] three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered[c] them, and a voice from the cloud said:
This is My beloved Son.
6 When the disciples heard it, they fell facedown and were terrified.
7 Then Jesus came up, touched them, and said, “Get up; don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up they saw no one except Him[d]—Jesus alone.
Luke 9:28-36 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
28 About eight days after these words, He took along Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly, two men were talking with Him—Moses and Elijah. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of His death,[a] which He was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 Peter and those with him were in a deep sleep,[b] and when they became fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with Him. 33 As the two men were departing from Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it’s good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud appeared and overshadowed them. They became afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 Then a voice came from the cloud, saying:
This is My Son, the Chosen One;[c]
36 After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was found. They kept silent, and in those days told no one what they had seen.
