28 And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the [a]regeneration when (A)the Son of Man will sit on [b]His glorious throne, (B)you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, (A)there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, 30 [a]but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in [b]the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in (B)the age to come, eternal life. 31 But (C)many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”

Jesus’ Sufferings Foretold

32 (D)Now they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they (E)were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him, 33 saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and (F)the Son of Man will be [c]handed over to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will [d]hand Him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock Him and (G)spit on Him, and flog Him and kill Him; and three days later He will rise from the dead.”

35 [e](H)James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, *came up to [f]Jesus, saying to Him, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You.” 36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 37 They said to Him, “[g]Grant that we (I)may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.” 38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able (J)to drink the cup that I drink, or (K)to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 They said to Him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink (L)you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized. 40 But to sit on My right or on My left is not Mine to give; (M)but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”

41 (N)Hearing this, the other ten began to feel indignant with [h]James and John. 42 Calling them to Himself, Jesus *said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them; and their [i]people in high position exercise authority over them. 43 But it is not this way among you; (O)rather, whoever wants to become [j]prominent among you shall be your servant; 44 and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man (P)did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His [k]life as a ransom for many.”

Bartimaeus Receives His Sight

46 (Q)Then they *came to Jericho. And later, (R)as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a beggar who was blind named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus the (S)Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, (T)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “(U)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him here.” So they *called the man who was blind, saying to him, “(V)Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus. 51 And replying to him, Jesus said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” And the man who was blind said to Him, “[l](W)Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go; (X)your faith has [m]made you well.” And immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.

29 And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, (A)there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who will not receive many times as much at this time, and in (B)the age to come, eternal life.”

31 (C)Now He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, (D)we are going up to Jerusalem, and (E)all the things that have been written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. 32 (F)For He will be [a]handed over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon, 33 and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.” 34 [b](G)The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.

Bartimaeus Receives Sight

35 (H)Now as [c](I)Jesus was approaching Jericho, a man who was blind was sitting by the road, begging. 36 But when he heard a crowd going by, he began inquiring what this was. 37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he called out, saying, “Jesus, (J)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 Those who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out all the more, “(K)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He asked him, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Regain your sight; (L)your faith has [d]made you well.” 43 And immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, (M)glorifying God; and when (N)all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.
