²³ Then he went and settled in a town called Nazareth to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets, that He will be called a Nazarene.^(A)

¹³ He left Nazareth behind and went to live in Capernaum^(A) by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.

¹¹ And the crowds kept saying, “This is the prophet Jesus^(A) from Nazareth in Galilee!”

Gabriel Predicts Jesus’ Birth

²⁶ In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel^(A) was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,^(B)

⁴ And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David,^(A)

The Family’s Return to Nazareth

³⁹ When they had completed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.^(A)

In Favor with God and with People

⁵¹ Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother kept all these things in her heart.^(A)

Rejection at Nazareth

¹⁶ He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up.^(A) As usual, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day^(B) and stood up to read.^(C)

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael^[a](A) and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law (and so did the prophets^(B)): Jesus the son of Joseph,^(C) from Nazareth!”^(D)

⁴⁶ “Can anything good^(E) come out of Nazareth?” Nathanael asked him.

“Come and see,” Philip answered.
