25 But Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles dominate them, and the men of high position exercise power over them. 26 It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(A) 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(B) and to give His life—a ransom for many.”(C)

They do everything[a] to be observed by others: They enlarge their phylacteries[b](A) and lengthen their tassels.[c](B) They love the place of honor at banquets, the front seats in the synagogues,(C) greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by people.

“But as for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi,’ because you have one Teacher,[d] and you are all brothers.(D) Do not call anyone on earth your father, because you have one Father, who is in heaven.(E) 10 And do not be called masters either, because you have one Master,[e] the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant.(F) 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.(G)
