The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age^(A)

³Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, ^(B)the disciples came to Him privately, saying, ^(C)“Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

⁴And Jesus answered and said to them: ^(D)“Take heed that no one deceives you. ⁵For ^(E)many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ ^(F)and will deceive many. ⁶And you will hear of ^(G)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for ^[a]all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷For ^(H)nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be ^(I)famines, ^[b]pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. ⁸All these are the beginning of sorrows.

⁹^(J)“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. ¹⁰And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. ¹¹Then ^(K)many false prophets will rise up and ^(L)deceive many. ¹²And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow ^(M)cold. ¹³^(N)But he who endures to the end shall be saved. ¹⁴And this ^(O)gospel of the kingdom ^(P)will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

⁷So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

⁸And He said: ^(B)“Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ ^[a]Therefore do not ^[b]go after them. ⁹But when you hear of ^(C)wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

¹⁰^(D)Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ¹¹And there will be great ^(E)earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. ¹²^(F)But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and ^(G)prisons. ^(H)You will be brought before kings and rulers ^(I)for My name’s sake. ¹³But ^(J)it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. ¹⁴^(K)Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will ^[c]answer; ¹⁵for I will give you a mouth and wisdom ^(L)which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or ^[d]resist. ¹⁶^(M)You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put ^(N)some of you to death. ¹⁷And ^(O)you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. ¹⁸^(P)But not a hair of your head shall be lost. ¹⁹By your patience possess your souls.
