3 In those days John the Baptist came,^(A) preaching in the Wilderness of Judea^(B)

⁴ John came baptizing^[a](A) in the wilderness^(B) and preaching a baptism of repentance^[b](C) for the forgiveness^(D) of sins.^(E)

³ He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan,^(A) preaching a baptism of repentance^[a] for the forgiveness of sins,

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day He was taken up from us—from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of His resurrection.”^(A)

⁴ Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”^(A)
